Taking serious note of the allegations by Punjab police cop-turned-drug peddlar Jagdish Bhola of jail authorities harassing him, the Punjab Government on Monday marked an enquiry to the State Director General of Police (DGP). The information was shared by the State Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, who also holds the charge of Home Department, while interacting with the mediapersons after laying foundation stone of new Zila Parishad Complex, to be constructed at a cost of Rs13.16 crore.

“Enquiry has been marked to the Punjab DGP in case of drug peddler Jagdish Bhola’s allegations of Nabha jail authorities harassing him,” said Sukhbir. He said that the State DGP Sumedh Singh Saini was looking into the matter and would soon present his report. Responding to another media query on rape cases in State, Sukhbir said that Punjab Government has zero tolerance policy towards such heinous crime against women and the DGP has been asked to deal with these cases very strictly.

He said that the Punjab Government has successfully conducted free and fair local bodies elections.  “SAD-BJP victory in these peacefully conducted elections reiterates the fact that people vote for development and the opposition has no issue to raise. The credit of conducting these elections harmoniously goes to the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,” he added.

Talking about the unseasonal rains wreaking havoc on the crops in state, he said that the Chief Minister Punjab Parkash Singh Badal has sought Rs3,600 crore compensation from the Centre. He added that already the NDA Government has give projects worth hundred crores to Punjab such as the lining of canals. “In the months to come, we are getting more such funds to unleash unprecedented development in State,” he said.
