The head of Punjab Government’s Special Task Force (STF) on drugs, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Gurpreet Kaur Deo, on Sunday made an appeal to the parents to more spend time with their children to allay the problem of drug menace.

Deo’s appeal came after the culmination of a bike rally, organised by the ‘Thumpers Café’ club in association with the STF from Mohali to Chandigarh in commemoration of martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, aimed at creating awareness about the problem of drug abuse in Punjab.
The STF spokesperson said that the bike rally was organised to create awareness among the society to quit drugs addiction under the slogan of ‘Rang De Basanti — A Ride For Drug Free India’.
As many 500 riders of Thumpers Café, 20 riders of Punjab Police, 20 riders of STF and four riders from Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh, took part in the rally. Similar bike rallies were also taken out simultaneously in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, Moga and Nawanshaher cities.
Spokesperson said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, the youth icons who made the supreme sacrifice for the freedom of the nation, are an inspiration to free the society from the spectre of drugs. The bike ride was cheered throughout the route by the public and was appreciated for the positive message it conveyed to the youth and the society.
