Concerned over rising road mishaps due to drunken driving in Rohtak Police Range covering Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonepat and Panipat districts, Haryana police have decided to kick off a special campaign against drunken driving across the range in order to check the road accidents.

Anil Kumar Rao, Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Rohtak Range, recently shot off a communique to Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all the four districts in this regard wherein he has asked them to carry out a special drive in their area concerned to issue challan for drunken driving.

The IGP has also directed SHOs and Traffic in-charges of all the districts to have at least one Alco Sensor each in their official jeeps every time so as to do checking of the drunk drivers .

“The move aims at preventing the drunken driving which is turning out to be a major cause in majority of the road accidents occurred in the range hence special attention is needed to curb the drunken driving for brining down the numbers of road mishaps,” said Rao while talking to ‘The Pioneer’ here on Monday.

He maintained that the checking drive would be carried out during evening and night patrolling in all districts of the range. The police personnel on duty would check the vehicle drivers and challan them for drunken driving if found to be guilty for the same during checking, he added.

“Over-speed driving is also one the key factors responsible for the road accidents hence I have directed the SPs to use interceptors for controlling the over-speed of the vehicles. The SPs have also been asked to send proposals for buying interceptors if they donot have adequate numbers of interceptors in their area concerned,” said Rao, adding that a cop of Inspector rank would be deputed as Incharge of the Interceptor so as to carry out the checking operation in an efficient manner.

The IGP maintained that the SHOs and the traffic incharge had also been directed to keep challan books in their official vehicles every time so that those drivers found to be violation traffic rules any where in the district could be challaned at the same time.

“I have also directed the DSPs of all districts to keep a tab on functioning of the traffic incharge so that they could efficiently carry out the campaign against the drunken driving,” said Rao.
