Some forces trying to create disturbance in Punjab: Rijiju

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said that some forces are trying to fulfil their “nefarious designs” of creating disturbance in Punjab and that the intelligence agencies are fully alert.

“Our intelligence agencies are fully alert and keeping a close eye on activities of some anti-national forces. We would not allow the peace of the state to be disturbed,” he said while addressing the media after laying foundation of the complex of seventh Battalion of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at ludhiana.

Punjab government has provided 51 acres of land free of cost at the outskirts of the city at ladhowal for the project, for which an amount of Rs 200 crore would be spent. The campus would be completed in 2018.

He said that the NDRF was counted amongst one of the most disciplined and efficient forces around the globe.

“The establishing of NDRF campus in ludhiana would not only result in dealing with any natural disaster in state in timely fashion as ludhiana falls in the center of Punjab, but would also prove beneficial to Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir,” he said adding that NDRF is ideal for combating both man-made and natural disasters.

He further added that the NDA Government is seriously working on increasing the central assistance to compensate the farmers suffering from natural disasters, while invited Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia to hold consultations with the Union Home Ministry in New Delhi to prepare a detailed plan regarding this.

Majithia, in his address, said that a comprehensive plan is being prepared by the Punjab Government to make people aware about reducing the losses from natural disasters.

On the NIA filing chargesheet in Pathankot airbase attack case, Rijiju said that the Centre would pressurise Pakistan to extradite the perpetrators of terror to India.

“India will seek the help and support of other countries for the purpose because all the countries are facing heat of terrorism,” he said.
