Haryana Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Karan Dev Kamboj said that the delegation led by him to South Africa and Mauritius had studied the silos made up of concrete which would ensure safe storage of food grains in Haryana.

Kamboj was speaking after the delegation returned back and was welcomed at New Delhi on Sunday.

He said that the Governments of South Africa and Mauritius had discussed issues related to farming and land, and extended assistance in various other fields. They also intend to visit India in September this year, said the Minister.

He said that this visit to both countries would bear fruitful results in future.

Kamboj said that successful discussions on various issues were held with Black Business Council (BBC) in South Africa.

He said that BBC had intended to visit India in September to explore techniques of silos. There were more than 33 years old silos in South Africa which were made up of steel and concrete where sunflower, cattle feed and flowers were stored safely. The temperature can be adjusted as per requirement in such types of silos, said he.

The Minister said that approval had been given to construct silos with capacity of 9 lakh Metric Tonnes (MT) in Haryana. He said that the Haryana Government would construct silos with capacity of 6.5 lakh MT and Food Corporation of India would construct godowns with capacity of 3 lakh MT. Initially silos of steel would be constructed and after that silos of concrete would be made on the pattern of South Africa, he added.
