PNS

After Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) withdrew Balkar Sidhu’s name as its candidate for Talwandi Sabo bypolls and replaced him with another candidate, the Punjabi singer- turned-politician on Saturday turned rebel and filed his nominations as an Independent candidate.

AAP has now named Prof Baljinder Kaur as party candidate from the Talwani Sabo seat.

The 40-year-old Balkar Sidhu, who became active in AAP after the party won four seats in parliamentary elections, has announced to revolt against the decision of the party and went to the office of the returning officer on Saturday to file his nomination papers as an Independent candidate. The decision to withdraw his candidature came after the party received negative feedback about Sidhu from the party circles. A great wave of resentment was experienced after Sidhu’s candidature was announced, with the party workers and leaders, working for the party since long, raising objections over his selection.

Now, with Sidhu contesting as an Independent candidate, the triangular bypoll contest from Talwandi Sabo has turned into a four-cornered one.

SAD has fielded formed Congress MlA-turned-Akali leader Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu while Congress has fielded former Bathinda MlA Harminder Singh Jassi as its candidate from Talwandi Sabo Assembly constituency.
