Calling for complete overhaul of Haryana Police Department, the Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar on Tuesday emphasised the need to discourage the tendency of using the security cover as a status symbol on the part of people holding positions of authority.
He said that after assuming the charge of Chief Minister, he has reduced as many as 700 security personnel deployed in VIP security, which is equivalent to the police force of one district alone, including 183 from his own personal security. During a meeting with Jayant Umranikar, who retired as Maharashtra DGP, regarding police reforms here on Tuesday, Khattar said this.
Manohar lal said, “We should introspect which situation leads to occurrence of crime”. The Chief Minister also said that police should be made more sensitive towards the citizens.
“While a crime-less society is an utopia, the concerned must immediately register every report after occurrence of crime”, added the CM. Keeping this in view, the State Government has launched Har Samay, a 24x7 citizen portal of Police Department for lodging complaints.
He assured that any refusal on the part of a police personnel to register complaint would be viewed vigorously. The CM also suggested creating more awareness in the society about the alternate dispute redressal systems like lok Adalats to resolve disputes amicably.
Manohar lal added that he was of the view that the good work done by Khap Panchayats should be acknowledged and appreciated just as their wrong decisions should be condemned. At the meeting, Haryana DGP Yashpal Singhal thanked the CM for approving about 17 proposals of the department.
