Union Minister of Steel, Choudhary Birender Singh on Tuesday said that a scrap factory would be established in Haryana.

He also said that the Motor Vehicle Act (Amendment) Bill is pending in Parliament. After passage of this bill, more than 15-year-old vehicles would not be able to run on the road, said the Union Minister while talking to the mediapersons in Fatehabad.

He said the Union Steel Ministry would purchase 15-year-old vehicles by paying 15 per cent more than the market rate. Presently, India is importing one million tonne of scrap, he added.

Describing the INlD-BSP alliance as a mismatch, the Union Minister said that history witnessed the two parties striking an alliance earlier also, but it could not succeed and fell a victim to their respective egos.

The alliance struck by the two parties now will also meet the same fate. Since the vote bank of INlD and BSP could not be mutually transferred, the alliance was doomed to failure, said he.

Asked to comment on the resistance of some sarpanches to the e-panchayats system, he said initially problems were faced in understanding the system which was a big reform. There was negative impact of the Value Added Tax (VAT) also when introduced but VAT finally emerged as a strong system of revenue growth. Similarly, e-panchayats system would not only ensure transparency but would also accelerate the pace of development, he said.

In reply to a question about the 2019 lok Sabha elections, the Union Minister said the opposition lacked leadership and general public accepted the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

People welcome his innovative thinking and capability to take new decisions. The confidence youth has reposed in the Prime Minister shows that the younger generation wants development, said he.

Dismissing the prospects of formation of a third front at the national level as bleak, he said political parties having different thoughts could not give strong leadership to the nation.

Earlier, while speaking at a programme organised on the National Panchayati Raj day, Choudhary Birender Singh said the Centre had taken a significant decision to further strengthen the panchayats.

Funds for development purposes would now be directly credited to their bank accounts, he added.

Rajya Sabha MP Gen (Retd) DP Vats was also present on this occasion.
