In a bid to encourage school students to take keen interest in sports, Haryana Government has announced scholarships amounting to about Rs100 crore.
“To eliminate regionalism in promotion of sports, all necessary sports facilities would be made available in the schools. Scholarships amounting to Rs100 crore would be given to the students so as to groom them in different games,” said Haryana Additional Chief Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs KK Khandelwal while speaking at the annual function in Jhajjar.
He said that children of both rural and urban areas would be groomed in all sports disciplines. Sports nurseries are being set up in each district of the state with an intake capacity of 15 boys and 25 girls. Monthly scholarships of Rs1500 to Rs2000 would be provided to each student in the nurseries, he added.
He exhorted the students to keep pace with the changing scenario and make concerted efforts to achieve desired results.
Khandelwal also honoured the girl students of the college for their outstanding performance.
Recently, Haryana Government had also announced to formulate a policy for the sports promotion in universities and colleges of the state.
