SAS Nagar Mohali is all set to create a record of sorts in the country with largest number of international sports stadiums per capita population with the completion of seven sports stadiums by June this year.

Also, the stadiums would be inaugurated on the same day, also marking the inauguration of three-nation hockey tournament. The announcement came after Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal made a whirlwind tour of all the stadiums to review its progress and suggest improvements in some of them.

Touring the hockey stadium, right opposite the Punjab Cricket Association stadium, Sukhbir felt that the upcoming stadium was far better than london’s Olympic stadium. He asked the authorities to create separate rooms for international coaches to be hired by them.

Impressing upon the need for proper parking space especially during tournaments, Sukhbir asked the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) to develop area between hockey stadium and indoor stadium from where drain passes, landscape beautified and developed it as multi-storied

parking with food court and other facilities.

Going through the progress of Indoor Stadium, Sukhbir asked the planners to create spectator galleries and ensure lighting facilities as per the Olympic specifications for day and night performances.

Sukhbir also visited Sector-78 stadium and asked GMADA to lay out international standard synthetic track besides sufficient space for spectators, besides creating hostel facility for 200 players with residential facility for coaches besides an international level cafeteria.

Expressing satisfaction over the construction and wooden work at Sector 78 Sports Stadium, Sukhbir directed the officials to ensure early completion of pending works, so that it could be made operational before June.
