Sanaullah Ranjay — the Pakistani prisoner who was critically injured after he was assaulted in Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu was brought to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and research amidst high security. He has been admitted to the intensive care unit for specialised treatment.

According to official sources the condition of the prisoner is stable at the moment. However, doctors are examining him and the report will be submitted only after the initial medical examinations are completed.

The prisoner will undergo treatment here for now and would not be sent to Pakistan, said official sources.

Pakistan, on Friday demanded immediate release and repatriation of Sanaullah on humanitarian grounds. It asked for the evacuation of the prisoner by an air ambulance, including assistance in ground facilitation.

However, India has allowed official from Pakistan to meet the injured prisoner here in Chandigarh. India has also given travel permission to the officials for the same. India has made it clear that consular access would follow once doctors clear it, but have denied repatriating the prisoner.

Sanaullah received serious head injuries after entering into an altercation with the inmates of the jail he was lodged into. He was immediately shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu from where he was airlifted to Chandigarh for specialized treatment as his condition was deteriorating.

He was being tried for murder since the late 1990s for carrying out acts of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir said Police sources.
