Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday urged its rank and file to support the appeal of the farmers’ organizations, agitating against the three farm acts, to observe December 23 as ‘Kisan Divas’ by observing a one day hunger strike in solidarity with them.
“The decision has been taken by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal, and he has urged all party workers to participate in the mass one day hunger strike to send out a clear message that Punjabis are one against the black agri laws which would destroy our future generations in case they are not repealed,” said former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra while appealing to all Punjabis to wholeheartedly support the hunger strike call.
Meanwhile, Chandumajra also visited the residence of Rajpura Arhtiya Association Jatinder Lada and condemned the Income Tax raids conducted at his premises as well as those on other office bearers of the Punjab Arhtiya Association.
Addressing arthiyas (commission agents) on the occasion, including Bhunerheri president Kulwinder Singh Rana, Chandumajra urged them not to come under any pressure of the Central Government which wanted to browbeat them and force them to withdraw support from the ongoing Kisan agitation.
While asserting that the farmer-arhtiya relationship was rock solid, the SAD leader urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to follow the footsteps of the Congress party and carry out vindictive actions which would rebound on the central government.
At the same time, he also warned the Centre not to follow the divide and rule policies of the Congress party which had proved costly for the Congress and resulted in virtual disintegration of the party.
PUNJAB MINISTER TO SIT ON HUNGER STRIKE
Punjab School Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Tuesday announced to sit on a hunger strike on December 23, on the occasion of National Kisaan Diwas in protest against Narendra Modi-led Union Government’s “draconian” farm laws.
“On the occasion of #KisaanDiwas, I shall be sitting on a hunger strike in protest against @BJP4India Govt’s unfair farm laws, in complete solidarity with our farmers & arthiyas’ demands! My humble appeal to all to stand in unity against a tyrannical govt & its unjust policies!” tweeted Singla.
Appealing all sections of the society to stand in unity with the farmers and against a tyrannical government and its unjust policies, Singla said that the Union Government is using multipronged hypocrite tactics to scatter farmers and sections associated with farmers, but farmers’ protest is day by day reaching towards its peak and will be finished only after getting their due rights.
Terming Income Tax raids on arhtiyas of Punjab as malicious tactics, Singla said that BJP leaders have not digesting arhtiyas’ full support to their brethren farmers, thus, in an unlawful manner, these raids are being carried out on behest of the Union Government to weaken the farmer protest.
“But, BJP leaders will not succeed in ending the generations’ long relationship between the farmers and arhtiyas,” he emphatically said.
