In a sharp contrast to New York’s incident, the SAD on Sunday claimed that the party’s delegation comprising Punjab’s Cabinet Ministers Sohan Singh Thandal, and Surjit Singh Rakhra, with party MP Balwinder Singh Bhundar, received a rousing welcome in Canada.
The party’s high level delegation was on the second leg of its tour. Canada’s Punjabi community extended a rousing welcome to the SAD leaders at a special function organised by Khalsa Diwan Society at Vancouver’s gurudwara.
During this occasion, members of the Punjabi diasporas expressed their satisfaction over the working of Akali government in Punjab, said SAD’s official spokesperson.
They also assured the visiting delegation their full support and expressed willingness in unison that SAD should remain at the helm of affairs in Punjab to lead the Punjabis in this hour of crisis. Canadian Sikhs also shared their woes they are facing while living in another country especially the attacks on ‘saabat surat’ Sikhs in the cases of mistaken identity. They urged the SAD leaders to take up such cases with the UNO to secure the religious identity and freedom for the Sikhs living in different countries of the world.
Expressing their gratitude towards the Punjabi diasporas, SAD leaders assured them that they would leave no stone unturned to mitigate the problems of NRIs whether in Punjab or in any foreign land.
