Old rivalry between Punjab and Haryana is back. Slamming Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for announcing to constitute separate Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee in the State, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday said that Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would oppose any such move.
Talking to reporters during the Sangat Darshan programme of Talwandi Sabo Assembly segment, the Chief Minister said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) had came into existence after enormous sacrifices made by the Sikhs during the British Raj. He said, Congress has always adopted an anti-Sikh stance and the fresh move of the Congress Government in Haryana had proved that a ‘leopard cannot change its spots’.Badal said that Congress has always unnecessarily interfered in the religious affairs of the Sikhs, adding that Haryana Chief Minister’s announcement was politically motivated as he was trying to take mileage out of it in the coming State Assembly polls.
“By constituting separate Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee in Haryana, the Congress party was playing with fire as the Sikhs would not at all tolerate its interference in their religious matters. This action of dividing the Sikhs was totally unwarranted and the SAD would vigorously oppose it,” he said. Badal said, “We will never allow the Congress party to meddle in our religious affairs and stiff opposition will be given to any such proposal.”
Assailing former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for holding SAD responsible for the violence in Sri Harmandir Sahib on Friday, the Chief Minister said that the lok Sabha MP from Amritsar has always misled the people adding that speaking a lie was the biggest craftsmanship of the Captain. He reiterated that nobody would be allowed to disturb the hard earned peace of the state and strict action would be taken against the people responsible for this violence. Badal said that the state government was firmly committed to uphold the ethos of communal harmony, peace and amity at every cost.
