The ruling SAD on Thursday urged the PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh to understand and appreciate the ground realities prevailing in the state. “He should stop dreaming of the Chief Ministership and start living as a normal human being,” said SAD secretary and spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema.
He said that the Congress party’s top leadership in Delhi has understood the real situation in Punjab but Capt Amarinder has still not stopped day dreaming. “From day-to-day developments and U-turns being taken by Capt Amarinder, it has become abundantly clear that he is being compelled to effect decisions of that Rahul Gandhi whom he considered pre-mature for Indian politics,” he said.
Cheema said that today’s statement of Capt Amarinder Singh welcoming Navjot Sidhu and his team into Congress fold is fresh example of the miserable condition of the state Congress chief. “Sidhu and company, whom he referred to as ‘Tonga Party’, has become so important for him that due to the pressure from high command, he has been forced to issue open welcome statement in the media,” he said.
“People of Punjab have witnessed during recent months that Capt Amarinder first gave a clarion call to all the opposition parties to unite under Congress umbrella which was rejected by every party. Then he called upon politically individuals to forge alliance but no one cared for his calls, and now, he is forced to eat up his rejections by the high command of his own party,” said Cheema.
Having dig at Capt Amarinder for his clarion call to “all dejected, frustrated and self-seeker political mavericks”, SAD general secretary and MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said that this open invitation to rank outsiders reflects that he has little faith on his herd and looking for support to sail through in the ensuing assembly polls.
Dhindsa said that Capt Amarinder had been blowing hot and cold in the same breath. “Apparently, the Congress had already sensed defeat and is now looking for support from whatever quarter it comes from and has been vociferously calling all Tom, Dick and Harry together on the party platform to save the state which actually should be read as ‘Save Amarinder and Congress from decimation’,” he added.
