A high level delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will call upon the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday to apprise it on how the Congress Government in Punjab disobeyed its directions besides failing to take any action against the Punjab Police IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh despite express orders of the poll panel.
The delegation, which will be led by senior leader and MP Balwinder Singh Bhundur, will call upon the ECI at Nirvachan Bhavan and place on record the documentary evidence on how the State Government misled the ECI after it directed it to transfer the IG from the SIT (special investigation team) formed to probe police actions of Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan.
The ECI had taken this action after the officer indulged in making political statements during the model code of conduct, said the SAD spokesperson adding that the party would also urge for appropriate action against the IG as per service rules.
Besides Bhunder, the delegation would include former Minister Maheshinder Singh Grewal, MP Naresh Gujral, Ex Minister Daljit Singh Cheema and bureaucrat-turned-politician Darbara Singh Guru.
