Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday asked for complete withdrawal of Gandhi family’s name on airports, social schemes and awards in the country, saying that “a name synonymous with butchering innocent Sikhs in 1984 riots does not deserve this honour”.
“The farce of double speak by Rahul Gandhi and Capt Amarinder Singh stands exposed to the nation on their stand and statements on heinous crimes committed by their party leaders,” said the former minister and senior SAD leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia while lashing out at the “duo” for allegedly murdering democracy in the nation.
Asking for a complete withdrawal of all schemes in the name of “Gandhi family”, Majithia said that there were enough honest, upright leaders in the history of the nation to get this honour.
Majithia said that the secular society should shun from conferring the highest civil award to the people who have a contentious past and the Bharat Rattan be withdrawn with immediate effect.
He made a clarion call that the names of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi on all airports, awards and social schemes started should be changed to finally accommodate leaders and freedom fighters who gave up their lives for the nation in its struggle for Independence
SAD leader questioned the raison d’etre of “monopolistic attitude of the Gandhi family to have all important social schemes, airports and awards on their name”.
A scathing attack on Capt Amarinder, Majithia said: “I was in Delhi at the time of 1984 riots and saw a sad period in the nation’s history. My family went around helping in camps and the trauma one witnessed is still vivid in my eyes.”
“The state Chief Minister should stop flip-flopping on his stand on 1984 riots and giving clean chits to his cronies. Is Capt Amarinder suffering from a myopic vision that he claims that Gandhis are not involved in this genocide. The riots were done at the behest of Rajiv Gandhi. It is on record that Rajiv Gandhi went around Delhi when it was burning,” he said.
Majithia added that the day is not far when justice will catch up with all involved with the genocide. “Law has long hands and SAD is committed to pursue the cases to their logical conclusion,” he said.
