Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday asked the Congress to apologise to the Punjabis for “knowingly foisting” a tainted leader who had been convicting for grabbing land on them.
“The people of Punjab, who had earlier protested in anger at the appointment of Kamal Nath as in-charge of Punjab due to his involvement in 1984 anti-Sikh genocide, are now feeling humiliated after the appointment of Asha Kumari as the state in-charge…The people are asking if the Congress does not have even one clean leader in its midst,” said SAD MP from Bathinda and the Union Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
She said that it appeared the party of scams was running short of clean persons to head the Punjab unit. The recent developments were indicative of the state of affairs in the Congress as it seemed no senior leader was ready to head its Punjab unit, she said.
The Union minister said that the twin actions were proof that the Congress high command and the Gandhi family were not interested in Punjab or its people and were in fact working as per a set anti-Punjab agenda.
She said that the truth was that Capt Amarinder himself was severely compromised after his name as well as of his wife Preneet Kaur and son Raninder Singh had cropped up in the opening of accounts and Trusts overseas.
“Instead of telling Punjabis why he had stashed his wealth abroad which had been now documented, he is trying to paint a picture of victimization. Will he now say that Kumari is also victimized and that there is no case against her,” asked Harsimrat.
She asked Capt Amarinder to “clear his position in the matter lest it be understood that he is trying to help a former royal from Chamba royal family to revive her political career at the expense of the people of Punjab”..
