Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday said that the Central Government should not allow any delay in proceeding against the “murderers” of innocent farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, it appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw the three agriculture laws immediately.

“Central Government should repeal the farm laws as quickly as possible keeping in mind the sentiments of the farming community. This is also needed to contain unrest and ensure no more lives are lost,” said SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, after the party’s core committee meeting.

Expressing shock that no concrete action had been initiated against those responsible for the brutal murder of innocent farmers at Lakhimpur, SAD core committee demanded a judicial probe into the entire incident including inflammatory speeches rendered by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Misra.

Akali Dal also condemned the Uttar Pradesh Government for stopping an SAD delegation, led by Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, from proceeding towards Lakhimpur Kheri.  The core committee also mourned the loss of four precious farmer lives at Lakhimpur Kheri by holding a two-minute silence as a mark of respect and remembrance.
