Hitting back at the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Punjab Congress on Tuesday asked them to remove Agriculture Minister Tota Singh from the Cabinet and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu from the Rajya Sabha before making any statement against the State Congress party affairs’ in-charge Asha Kumari.
Describing the SAD-BJP’s outburst against All-India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Asha Kumari like ‘a pot asking cattle black’, Punjab Congress asked the ruling combine to come clean on their tainted leaders before making comments against anyone else.
Congress vice-president and Dera Baba Nanak MlA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa reminded the Akali Dal about the “conviction of Cabinet Minister Tota Singh in a corruption case and BJP about conviction of Rajya Sabha MP Navjot Sidhu in an attempt to murder case”.
“Before making any Statement against AICC secretary, both SAD and BJP must clear their respective stand on Tota Singh and Navjot Sidhu,” said Randhawa challenging the ruling alliance.
He said that the sentence of Tota Singh and Navjot Sidhu has also been suspended by the High Court like in case of Asha Kumari, “then why to target only the Congress leader. And don’t forget that SAD women wing president Bibi Jagir Kaur is convicted in a murder case of her own daughter”.
“Either the SAD-BJP leadership must throw out these leaders from their respective posts in Government or party hierarchy, or they should apologise to public for having double standard on issue of corruption and conviction,” said Randhawa.
He said that it has become habit of the SAD and BJP to browbeat others, but Congress will not tolerate such misadventure.
