Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday attended the cremation of his great grand aunt Shobha Nehru, wife of late BK Nehru at Kasauli in Solan district.

Shobha Nehru, who happens to be second grand-mother of Rahul Gandhi, had breathed her last on Tuesday.

The 109-year-old Shobha was oldest woman of Jewish community in India and was the wife of former diplomat and cousin of Pt Jawahar lal Nehru. She was named Magdolana Feedman, but after her marriage to BK Nehru, she was known as Shobha Nehru. The Nehru couple bought a bungalow and settled in the hill town of Kasauli in the 1980s.

The last rites of the woman were performed as per the Hindu rituals at Mashobra crematorium on  Kasauli-Parwanoo highway. Rahul Gandhi was seen in grey T-shirt and Blue jeans on the occasion.

Rahul landed at Chandigarh airport and reached the place of cremation via road. He had visited Shobha Nehru during her last visit to Himachal Pradesh in 2016. A number of Congress leaders reached the cremation and later had a brief discussion with Congress vice president.
