Pvt tech institutions flouting norms to face Govt ire in Punjab

PNS

The Punjab Government on Thursday warned the private technical institutions to cancel their affiliation in case they failed to fulfil the set standards.

The State Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi made it clear that no laxity would be tolerated in providing quality education by private technical institutes. “No compromise or relaxation would be allowed for any private institute providing technical education,” he said.

“No private technical education institute will be allowed to play with the future of students. The institutes have to meet all the standards set by the AICTE and the Punjab Government, otherwise they will have to face action,” said Channi.

He said that the Government officials will regularly check private technical institutes and if irregularities are found, their affiliation would be cancelled immediately. “If officials fail to perform their duty honestly and are not up to the mark, strict action would be taken against them,” Channi said.

The Minister directed installation of bio-metric attendance systems to stop fake admissions in private technical institutes which will be linked to the online system of the technical education department.

He asserted that all admissions in technical education institutes should be online, no late admissions will be allowed and no institute will be allowed to admit more students than the allotted seats.

Channi stressed on providing quality education rather commercialising the education system and asked technical educational institutes to follow the guidelines of the UGC and the AICTE in recruiting teaching staff. He said that a joint advisory committee of representatives of private technical educational institutes and Government representatives would be formed soon to upft the standard of education in the State.
