The Punjab Government would immediately start providing 80,000 tube-well connections to the farmers as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has lifted the stay on their allotment.
Announcing this after laying foundation stone for construction of concrete roads in Ratta Khera village on Tuesday at Roranwali, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal said that the Punjab State Power Corporation limited (PSPCl) had been directed to issue demand notices to the applicants besides ensuring the adequate supply of transformers and wires.
“The State Government would immediately start distribution of more than 80,000 tube-well connections to the farmers as the NGT has vacated the stay on its allotment which came to force one-and-a-half years ago,” he said.
Sukhbir said that it would work as a booster to the farming community which was desperate to get power connections for irrigation purposes after Punjab becomes the first power surplus State in the nation.
The whole process would be completed within six months, he added.
Announcing to recruit one lakh employees in different departments from September, he said that the government has instructed all the heads of the Departments, Boards and Corporations to submit details of existing vacancies till August.
Over improving inter-city road connectivity, he said that the tendering process for four and six-laning of roads was under progress and work in this regard would be initiated in next two months.
After achieving power surplus status, the next target was fixed to connect all major cities with four or six lane roads at a cost of Rs20,000 crore in next two years, he said.
These projects mainly include four or six-laning of ludhiana-Chandigarh, Jalandhar-Chandigarh, Jalandhar-Moga and Amritsar-Bathinda.
