less than six months after it came to power, the Congress Government on Thursday took a u-turn on the postings of police top brass. For no less than 11 IPS officers, the postings turned out to be a game of musical chair, where they found back the seats they occupied during the previous SAD-BJP tenure.
Ordering yet another major reshuffle in the top echelons Punjab Police, the Government transferred some back on the same post they were holding when the Congress Government took over. 1985-batch officer Hardeep Singh Dhillon has been transferred back to his initial posting as Director General of Police (law and Order) — the post he was holding during the previous SAD-BJP Government too. He was presently posted as DGP (Internal Vigilance Cell (IVC) and Welfare). Before that, he had held the charges of Human Rights, litigation wing, in just about five months’ tenure of the Congress Government.
Alike, 1987-batch officer MK Tiwari, who was only recently promoted to the DGP rank, has been posted as the DGP (Administration). Currently he was posted as DGP-cum-Managing Director in Punjab Police Housing Corporation after promotion. He would continue to hold the post as an additional charge. He was ADGP (Administration) for a considerable time in the previous regime too. Another IPS officer Jasminder Singh, posted as DGP Railways, has been transferred as DGP IVC. In his place, the government has posted Rohit Choudhary, who has been holding the charge of DGP law and order. ADGP (Administration) Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota has been posted as ADGP Prisons in place of Gaurav Yadav, who has been posted as ADGP Security. The post of ADGP Security was held by BK Bawa, who is now posted as ADGP-cum-commandant general of Punjab Home Guards.
Bawa would also hold the charge of Director Civil Defence with effect from September 1. Another senior IPS officer Sanjeev Kalra is posted as ADGP (Welfare), while Kuldeep Singh has been given the charge of ADGP Armed Battalions Jalandhar. IPS officer Anita Punj is posted as IGP Training, along with additional charge of Punjab Police Academy (PPA) Phillaur director. Rakesh Agrawal, currently holding the charge of DIG Special Protection Unit, is posted as IGP CM Security.
