Opening a new chapter of making all government schools clean and green across the state, the Punjab Education Department has decided to start a campaign — Sohna School Campaign — from September 26 to October 31.
The campaign, aimed at improving cleanliness and greenery in schools, would be initiated from Mothawal Government Senior Secondary School in Kapurthala district where a state-level function would be organised by the Education Department.
The State Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema and world-renowned environmentalist Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, in a bid to inculcate sense of cleanliness among children, would launch the campaign by cleaning the toilets themselves during the state-level function.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Dr Cheema.
“To make this campaign a success, Punjab Education Minister and senior department officials would visit different schools of the state and would personally supervise cleanliness of schools,” said a spokesperson of the state Education department.
He said that a state-level function would be organized at Kapurthala, and during this campaign, competitions related to cleanliness, environment, painting, essay etc would be organized in schools.
Each school would be directed that the toilets in their premises be cleaned regularly and non-functional toilets be repaired, he added.
Spokesperson said that during this six-day long campaign, functions would be organized in different parts of the state, which would be attended by District Education Officers and all officers from the head office as well.
