In a notable initiative, the Punjab Government has allocated Rs 426 crore over the next three years to modernize and upgrade police infrastructure across the State. The funds will be primarily utilized for the renovation of police stations, police lines, and other critical facilities to improve operational efficiency and the effectiveness of the police force, said the state Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
DGP Yadav made the announcement during his tour of the Ferozepur, Bathinda, and Patiala ranges, where he reviewed the law and order situation and assessed security arrangements for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
During his visit, DGP Yadav inaugurated several key development projects, including a newly-renovated conference hall in Bathinda. In Patiala, he flagged off 20 Police Control Room (PCR) motorcycles, funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, marking a step forward in enhancing the mobility and responsiveness of the police force.
“The modernization of police infrastructure is critical to strengthening law enforcement and ensuring public safety,” said the DGP. He emphasized that these initiatives align with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision of a robust and citizen-friendly police force.
As part of the preparations for Republic Day, Punjab Police has intensified security measures across the state. All Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) have been instructed to enhance patrolling, increase police presence at public venues, and set up additional checkpoints. The DGP also directed officers to share security alerts and ensure seamless coordination to safeguard the celebrations.
“Punjab Police is fully committed to ensuring peaceful and secure Republic Day celebrations, as envisioned by the Chief Minister,” said DGP Yadav.
In addition to infrastructure upgrades, Punjab Police is focusing on community engagement through sports development. DGP Yadav announced the promotion of six police coaches who have been pivotal in training young athletes in Sangrur district. These efforts are part of the Youth Connect Program, which seeks to divert children and youth from drug abuse by fostering a healthy lifestyle through sports.
The program has already helped 78 children from underprivileged backgrounds secure jobs based on their achievements in athletics, showcasing the transformative potential of this initiative.
During his tour, the DGP also felicitated 46 Punjab Police officials from the Patiala range with DGP Commendation Discs. The awards recognize the unwavering dedication, professionalism, and commitment of these officers to their duties. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and devotion displayed by Punjab Police officials in maintaining law and order,” said DGP Yadav.
