Soon, Punjab’s trademark phulkari and handicrafts may make way to your home through the e-commerce portals.

For, the state Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Monday suggested that in order to promote the sales of local handicrafts, the state’s handicraft items should also be showcased on the e-commerce portals.

Singla said that he would flag the issue to the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh that the Punjab phulkari and handicrafts be marketed on e-commerce portals  in order to cater to the NRI consumers worldwide.

Appreciating the successful online debut of Trident group in the global marketplace through the Amazon.com, Singla said that the e-commerce portals are lucrative platforms for Indian sellers to engage with global audiences.

“They have huge sales potential and entail minimal marketing cost...This would promote exports and help the small-scale industry in Punjab to grow,” he said.

Sharing the dais at the media interaction organised jointly by the Ludhiana-based Trident Group and Amazon at JW Marriot, Chandigarh, after the launch of its products on Amazon, Singla felicitated the India’s leading manufacturer in home textiles on its online debut globally through Amazon and hoped that it would inspire more and more Punjabi manufacturers to foray into similar venture.

“It is indeed heartening to know that over a thousand manufacturers from Punjab are marketing their products on Amazon,” he said.
