In a major breakthrough, the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of Punjab Police, Jalandhar, has foiled a target killing plot with the arrest of three operatives of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI)-backed terror module. The state Director-General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday revealed that the arrested individuals have been identified as Jagroop Singh, resident of Naushehra Kalan, Amritsar; Sukhjit Singh, resident of Mirzapur, Kapurthala; and Navpreet Singh alias Nav, resident of Fatehabad, Tarn Taran.

During the operation, police teams seized four firearms, including two sophisticated pistols — a.30 bore PX5 Storm (Beretta) and a 9mm Glock — along with two country-made pistols (.30 bore and .32 bore), four magazines, and 22 live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations have exposed a sinister international conspiracy, with the module being handled by USA-based gangster Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi Nawashehria, a close aide of Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda. The probe also revealed that Gopi Nawashehria, in collaboration with his Greece-based associate Laadi Bakapuria, was radicalizing and recruiting young men to execute anti-national activities in Punjab.

DGP Yadav stated, “We are investigating the module’s wider network, including their handlers and logistical support. Every link in this conspiracy will be dismantled to ensure Punjab remains safe.”

Providing insights into the operation, CI Jalandhar AIG Navjot Singh Mahal said that police acted on credible intelligence inputs and launched a well-coordinated intelligence-based operation. Jagroop Singh and Sukhjit Singh were apprehended while waiting for an accomplice in an Alto car near the Underbridge at Suriya Enclave, Jalandhar. Upon interrogation, Jagroop Singh disclosed Navpreet Singh’s involvement, leading to his immediate arrest.

AIG Mahal further revealed that Jagroop Singh is a habitual offender with a criminal record. He had previously served a three-year sentence in a murder case in Amritsar.

A case, dated March 2, 2025, has been registered under sections 113(1) and 113(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS); and sections 25 and 25(1B)(A) of the Arms Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
