Punjab has initiated the special summary revision of photo electoral roll from Wednesday. For the purpose, the draft electoral roll has been published and the same have been made available at the office of District Electoral Officer (DEO), Election Returning Officer (ERO), Block level Officers (BlO) and Polling Stations across the State for the people to verify.

“The draft electoral roll is also available at website of the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) — http://ceopunjab.nic.in. Claim and objection in Form 6, 6A, 7, 8 and 8A can be filed with the ERO’s from October 15, to November 10 by anyone who has attained the age of 18 as on January 1, 2015,” said Punjab CEO VK Singh.

“Against a total projected population of 2.88 crore (2,88,83,590), the eligible population of 18-plus is estimated at 1.95 crore (1,95,16,688) persons. The draft electoral roll now contains 1,95,01,053 voters, covering approximately 99.92 per cent of the eligible population,” said Singh.

He said that in Punjab, main gap lies in age-cohort of 18-19 years where the coverage is only 5,75,736 against an estimate of 11,25,422 eligible persons. “In order to target this gap, special campaigns have been launched in educational institutions and through partner organizations and government departments,” he said. Singh informed that the Election Commission has organized intensive training of all its functionaries down to the BlO level to ensure smooth and hassle-free enrolment of voters or correction in the roll. ECI has imposed ban on transfers of electoral registration related officers and staff to all Departments.

“The draft electoral roll can be seen on the CEO’s website on which there is also a search facility on the basis of name. Separately, an SMS-based query system is also available by sending a message CEOPJB < SPACE> <EPIC NUMBER> and sent it to the following number (+917738299899). The CEOs helpline — 1950 — has also been activated and upgraded for the revision period,” he said. CEO has also invited representative of all political parties to inform them regarding this revision programme and to seek their cooperation in taking this message to all citizens who have not been enrolled till now.
