Hailing the Centre’s unique initiative of launching ‘Prashikshak’ — a teacher education portal, Punjab Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema on Thursday said that linking District Institute of Education and Training (DIETs) across the country was the need of the hour.

Cheema, appreciating the Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani’s initiative, said: “This will provide a uniform platform for information sharing, dissemination of knowledge and exchange of ideas among the faculty and students of 588 DIETs of different part of the country.”

He said that in addition to this, the portal would also help in monitoring the working of various DIETs as well as promoting a feeling of healthy competition. “The data sharing of various indicators of education will also help in judging the level of quality education in different States,” he said.

He also appreciated the decision of MHRD of adding regional languages in mode of communication. “It will further add to the effectiveness and efficiency and involvement of more teachers and students with the portal,” he said.
