PNS

The Punjab Government on Monday decided to institute an award dedicated to the founder of Namdhari sect, Satguru Ram Singh, during his ongoing year long bi-centennial birth celebrations from February 12, 2016.

The decision was taken by the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal while presiding over a meeting of the state level committee to review the arrangements for yearlong bi-centennial birth celebrations of Satguru Ram Singh.

Badal said that a high-powered delegation of the SAD-BJP MPs from Punjab would soon call on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to impress upon him for the ongoing bi-centennial birth celebrations of Satguru Ram Singh at the national level in recognition to his enormous contribution in the national freedom struggle.

A few MPs have already flagged up this issue with the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who gave a very positive response in this regard.

Badal also informed that he would soon take up the matter with the Centre for issuing a commemorate coin of `200 and `10 denomination besides releasing a commemorative postage stamp on this historic occasion.

To perpetuate the philosophy and works of Satguru Ram Singh amongst the future generations, Badal asked the Education Department to hold a series of seminars and declamation contests at the district level to ensure the participation of students from schools and colleges of the State.

He also asked the Punjabi University VC to get a book published on the Kuka Movement which would be edited by Dr Nazar Singh. “The book must be completed well within time so as to ensure its release on the valedictory function to be held on February 12, 2017,” said

Badal.
