The Punjab Education Department on Tuesday issued strict instructions to the district education officers to implement the anti-copying campaign effectively.  The instructions were issued by State Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema in a high-level meeting with the DEOs (secondary and elementary education) to review the department’s working and to chalk out annual plan on the basis of infrastructural needs and other priorities of the education department in the next session.

Keeping in view the forthcoming annual examinations, Cheema said that a campaign to totally eradicate the menace of copying has been initiated and the role of district level officials assumes great importance to make it a grand success. He laid stress on making the students more and more aware about the ill effects of copying. Cheema also asked the DEOs to prepare database of their respective districts vis-à-vis number of students and infrastructural needs.

To examine the syllabus books, Cheema directed the DEOs to nominate one subject expert for each subject in the district. He also asked them to send at least 10 suggestions after the examination of the syllabus books so that amendment could be made in the syllabus from the coming session.

In the first phase, syllabus books of fifth and tenth standard could be examined. Cheema also exhorted the DEOs to strengthen the career guidance counselling cell. “Database of mobile numbers of the parents of all students of fifth and tenth standard should also be prepared so that they could be intimated about the new professional courses through SMS” advised Cheema.

The Minister also instructed the DEOs to regularly conduct checks of schools at district level so that better academic atmosphere prevails at schools. He also asked the DEOs to sort out problems of students, parents and teachers at district level so that they don’t have to make rounds of head office. He also instructed that in this regard, a day in the week should be fixed to listen to the grievances of the public.
