Cracking whip on the absentee employees, Punjab Government on Tuesday declared that employees, who are absent from duty for a year in a row without any sanctioned leave, will be considered as “deemed resigned”.
The State Government, in a letter issued by the Finance Department, informed that if any officer or employee of Punjab Government was absent from his or her duty for more than one year without any prior sanctioned leave, his or her absence would be treated as resignation from Government service.
“Such employee would not be allowed to rejoin Government service. The concerned competent authority would have to issue immediate orders to terminate services of these absentees as per the rules, failing which the concerned authority would be held responsible,” said an official spokesperson.
He said this strict action had been taken because in such cases not only the discipline of the office is in disarray but there is also disruption in the delivery of public services due to absence of employees.
Such behaviour of these absentees is against the spirit of public service, and no reason can justify continuation of their service as government employee, added the spokesperson.
