Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Friday instructed the officers that if any drug smuggler was caught selling or selling drugs in their jurisdiction, strict action would be taken against the police personnel concerned. He also directed the authorities not to be lax in ensuring the safety of the people and curbing crime.
Randhawa, who also holds charge of Home Department, was chairing a crime review meeting, accompanied by his Special Principal Secretary Varun Roojam and Director General of Police Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota.
Interacting with the media, he said that the Union government is encroaching on the rights of the Punjab Government by expanding the border area in the state and they won’t let it happen.
Replying to another question, he said that no one would be spared in cases of sacrilege to Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
On Aam Aadmi Party, Randhawa said that AAP had no base in the state as three of it’s MLAs belonging to Bathinda Parliament including Rupinder Kaur Ruby, Nazar Singh Manshahia and Jagdev Kamalu have joined the Congress party and more leaders are expected to join.
He said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has been taking historic decisions for the state and every section of society is happy with the revolutionary decisions. “Congress Government is in fact the government of the common man,” he added.
Earlier, Randhawa held a special meeting with IGs, DIGs and District Police Chiefs of Bathinda, Ferozepur and Faridkot Police Ranges to review the crime situation. He also reviewed the work being done on crime and drug prevention in these ranges.
