Punjab continues to receive a tepid response to the Covid-19 vaccination drive. Till date, only 38 per cent of the targeted 80,337 registered healthcare workers have been vaccinated across 22 districts of the State.

A total of 31,326 healthcare workers have received the Covid-19 vaccines till date, ever since the drive was launched a week back. Maximum 7,248 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in Ludhiana district till date followed by 4,931 in Jalandhar and 2,775 in Amritsar.

The State Government had rolled out the coronavirus vaccination drive on January 16, with an aim to immunize 1.74 lakh healthcare and frontline workers in the first phase.

The state evoked a poor response with just 22.67 percent — 1,327 beneficiaries, including doctors and other frontline healthcare workers — turned up to receive their first dose of vaccine, as against the target of 5,853 in 22 districts of the State on the first day, followed by 33.1 percent on the second day, and 38 percent on the third day.

However, the state showed the signs of improvement on Sunday as about 46 percent of its targeted 2,160 registered healthcare workers in five districts come forward to receive the jabs. A total of 1,007 registered health care workers turning up for vaccination on Sunday.
