Punjab Congress on Friday dared the Badals for open debate on financial crisis and social security schemes in the State.
Throwing he challenge, the Congress legislature Party (ClP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi claimed that whopping Rs97 crores have been spent on the vehicles given to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his deputy son Sukhbir Badal and the state cabinet ministers from the public exchequer.
Channi’s claims were based on the information procured through Right to Information Act.
He said that the State transport department spent more than Rs97 crores on the Government vehicles provided to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and the entire cabinet from 2007 onwards till 2015.
Accusing the Badal Government for the “gross misuse” of public exchequer for their personal use, Channi said that the Badals should come on public platform for open debate on the financial crisis and implementation of social security schemes in the state in last 10 years.
“Spending more than Rs97 crores just on vehicles which are provided to the Badals and their ministers show the insensitivity of these political leaders towards the state,” he said.
According to the RTI information procured by Dr Jasdeepak Singh, the state transport department borne this expenditure, which is now to the tune of more than Rs 100 crores.
The ClP leader lambasted on the Badals for their anti-people attitude towards the social security schemes in the state, while spending lavishly for their own luxuries. “Under the handicap pension scheme, Badal Government has disbursed just Rs335.55 crores in the last 10 years from 2007 to 2016 covering just 11 lakh beneficiaries in this scheme,” he said.
