From now on, the party would not only be working to establish contact with the people and the workers at the grassroot level, but has also started the process of short-listing the candidates.

Setting the ball rolling for candidate’s selection, the party has asked the respective leaders to invite the names of probables from all constituencies, preparing the list of shortlisted candidates and sending it to the party high command for the final decision.

“We have already received some names. But now, we are starting the process formally. The discussion would be held and the list of candidates would be prepared before sending it to the high command for decision,” a senior Congress leader, who did not wish to be named, told The Pioneer.

At the same time, Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar is also holding meetings since past two days with the district unit heads, MLAs, Ministers following the MLAs’ meeting with the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, ahead the ensuing crucial elections.

As a part of the same, Capt Amarinder on Friday launched the party’s Jan Sampark Abhiyan — an internal digital platform that would utilise data to link each and every Congress worker in India with the party president — while expressing confidence that the Congress would win all 13 seats in Punjab.

To further strengthen the party’s public perception, Congress’ state affairs’ secretary in-charge Asha Kumari stressed to merge the Jan Sampark campaign with the Rahul Gandhi’s Shakti project which aims to strengthen the party’s ground organisation by connecting with workers across every booth, village, block, town and district.

During the meeting, Capt Amarinder asked the party workers to go all out to expose false propaganda being spread by SAD-BJP combine while taking Congress government’s achievements to the people.

He asked the workers to connect with the grassroot workers and voters to get their views and suggestions, besides carrying out door-to-door campaigns.
