Punjab BJP lashes at State Govt's debt relief scheme

PNS

Come January 7 and it will be the darkest day in the history of Punjab when Capt Amarinder Singh’s Government, going back on its word, will start the debt relief scheme,” said Punjab BJP president and Union Minister Vijay Sampla on Tuesday.

Sampla alleged that Capt Amarinder has betrayed the farmers by not keeping his original pre-poll promise of a full crop loan waiver. “Instead, he is launching a debt relief scheme and that too only for co-operative institutions and small farmers,” he said.

Stressing that the farmers of the State brought Capt Amarinder to power on this promise, Sampla said: “The manner in which the farmers are running from pillar to post to get their loans waived off clearly depicts how these farmers have been turned into beggars.”

He said that Capt Amarinder had promised a full crop loan waiver for the farmers holding a Gutka Sahib in his hands and the farmers had reciprocated by making him victorious. “But the way he has been dilly-dallying over the issue for the past 10 months, it is a betrayal of farmers,” he said.

Sampla said that Capt Amarinder talked of a full loan waiver during his first cabinet meeting on March 18, 2017, and then on June 19, he announced a loan wavier up to `2 lakhs in the Assembly.
