Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notice to the Haryana Government on the petition file by Skylight Hospitality Private limited, a company promoted by Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, challenging VAT notice.

The HC has sought a response from the State Government by April 4.

The case relates to the Shikohpur land deal in Gurgaon between Skylight Hospitalities and DlF limited. Skylight Hospitalities has challenged the notice issued on October 12, 2015 by the Excise authorities under Haryana Value Added Tax (VAT) Act, 2003.

The deal for the 3.53-acre land deal between the Petitioner Company and DlF limited had taken place in 2012. The company in its petition has claimed that it had not sold the licence and it only transferred licence of commercial colony to DlF limited and due permission for the transfer had been obtained.

Objecting to the notice sent by the Excise authority, the company had submitted that despite representations by the company, relevant documents had not been provided to the company and the information provided regarding the imposition of tax on the company by the State Government was not sufficient to prepare the defence.

Petitioners counsel told the court that the company had made several representations to the concerned authorities to provide them the record submitted by the Town and Country planning department related with the deal and also the assessment that the company sold the licence to DlF for Rs 58 crore.

Terming it to be a matter of systematic vendetta against one of the directors of the company, the petition says that the notice was based on wrong facts.
