Over 25 lakh bank accounts have been opened so far under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) scheme in Punjab with 21 districts, out of total 22, having 100 per cent coverage.

A total of 23,412 camps were organised across the state, and 25,36,437 accounts have already been opened ever since the scheme was launched, said an official spokesperson on Thursday. “Punjab is on the brink of achieving a distinction of 100 per cent coverage of families of State with a bank account under yojana,” he said.

By December 10 this month, all districts including ludhiana would be fully covered under the scheme, he said. The scheme was launched in Punjab on August 28 this year.

“One of the important pillar of the scheme is to conduct survey of all households of the State which banks and administration has done in close coordination to find out households not having bank accounts,” he said.
