Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and SAD president Sukhbir Badal on Sunday asserted that Punjab is a “victim of narco-terrorism”. Claiming that “not even a gram of any drug is produced in Punjab”, Sukhbir said that it was “either coming from across the border or from neighbouring States”.
Sukhbir said that political parties should stop politicising this issue just for the sake of it and should join the SAD-BJP war against drugs so that the core issue could be raised at national as well as international level. SAD chief said that countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan are known for producing large quantities of drugs and sending it across to India as a part of their narco-terrorism agenda meant to destabilise India.
“I feel sad that instead of supporting the Punjab Government, some political parties are politicising the issue. Punjab is fighting a war against drugs for not only saving the youth of Punjab, but youth of entire country,” he said. “I have requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take this issue seriously so that Punjab does not get tagged as a State of drug addicts because Punjabi youth have always been known from courage and bravery,” he said. He added that some States involved in legal sale of drugs even mention it as “income” in their annual budgets, which is sad and there cannot be two set of laws for two States in the same country.
