Haryana Government has extended the Jeevan Rekha project to curb the cases of chronic Hepatitis C in the State.
Now the patients, who were earlier not covered under this scheme, would also be given treatment at subsidised rates ie Rs1 lakh for six months which would be almost at half of the rates available in other parts of the country.
Head of Medical Gastroenterology Department of PGIMS, Rohtak Dr Parveen Malhotra said that earlier the project was only benefitting the patients of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Below Poverty line (BPl) category patients belonging to Haryana. After the extension of Jeevan Rekha project, each and every patient suffering from this disease would be benefitted.
He said that so far, about 400 patients of chronic hepatitis C had been successfully treated and 380 patients were currently under treatment. In this project, the complete details of patients getting treatment were uploaded in computer software and analysed to know about risk factors, prevalent areas and treatment response, he added.
The response of the treatment is around 95 per cent which is highest in India. A round-the-clock Hepatitis C helpline - 8950012900 is operational for all queries related to chronic Hepatitis C, he added.
