PNS

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes on Wednesday ordered a probe into reports of a college charging capitation fee from students including those from Scheduled Caste and showing indifferent attitude towards them.

“Special Investigation Team comprising SDM, SP and District Welfare Officer, Hoshiarpur will conduct an inquiry into Rs 10,000 taken as capitation fee from students by a local college for releasing their roll numbers and indifferent attitude of some of the members of the college management and college staff towards Scheduled Caste students,” NCSC Vice Chairman Raj Kumar Verka told reporters.

The SIT would submit its report within 15-days to the Deputy Commissioner. In case any member of the college staff and management of the college was found guilty, a criminal case would be registered, he said.

Verka said that DC of Hoshiarpur had already written to Panjab University, Chandigarh, drawing its attention towards less marks accorded to SC community students during internal assessment of B.Ed examination.
