Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday collected samples of materials of two roads — Phagwara-Dosanjh, Mukandpur road (11.35 kilometer section of Dosanjh-Mukandpur), and a stretch from village Nagar-Apra-Mukandpur — that cracked immediately after construction.

These roads were constructed under Pardhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) six and four months ago, respectively.“The first stretch of the road was laid down with the cost of Rs345.85 lakh by Jalandhar Cantonment wing of Punjab Works Department and was completed in December last year,” said the Vigilance Bureau spokesperson. He said that as per the agreement, work for this road was started from November 21, 2012, and was being completed by May 25, 2013, “but within one-month of its up-gradation, this road was broken from different places”.

The second stretch of village Nagar-Apra-Mukandpur road was completed four months ago and this road was also broken from different places, he said adding that the joint checking of these roads was conducted by Technical team of Vigilance Bureau, Chandigarh, and officers of the Mohali PWD under the leadership of Jalandhar VB wing DSP Bhupinder Singh.“The team collected samples from various locations, which would be sent to the laboratories for examination. The relevant record has also been taken into the custody….After the examination report, action would be taken against the erring officials,” he added.
