PGIMER teachers to protest against hospital admin's negligence

PNS

The faculty member of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has decided to go on protest against the laxity meted out to them by the hospital administration from August 16.

In view of plethora of pending issues, and the lackadaisical attitude of the PGIMER administration, the general body of faculty association has decided that the administration has time till August 15 to resolve the issues. If the issues are not resolved by this time, then the faculty will start agitation by wearing black badges, followed by protest march and other forms of resentment.

A General Body Meeting of the Faculty Association of PGIMER was held on August 7 to discuss the issues of housing, allowances, seniority, promotions, air conditioning of the outpatient block and parking in the institute.

The faculty members were extremely aggrieved regarding the dilly-dally attitude of the administration in carrying out even the simple day-to-day affairs for the faculty. In fact, most issues pertaining to the faculty are being neglected. Although funds for the construction of houses for the faculty have been sanctioned by Government of India, the Institute has not started construction of the houses. At present, there are about 400 faculty members in the institute, but PGIMER has only about 120 houses for the faculty. Due to this most of the faculty members have to stay outside.

Similarly, transport allowance is being given to all the Central Government employees and in other medical institutes including AIIMS. The faculty is pursuing this matter for the last two years; however the administration is yet to look into the matter. The faculty has repeatedly requested to make adequate and safe parking arrangements for the patients and staff along with the rapid expansion of the facilities in the Institute. Despite this, the administration has paid no heed.

Four weeks back, a large parking area of 250 cars has been shutdown to make way for the upcoming 250 bedded hospital. The faculty had expressed great reservation in choice of this site earlier too citing several problems including overcrowding, safety, infection and fire hazard.  Previously, the Director PGIMER used to chair a meeting wherein he used to listen to the problems of the faculty. However, no such meeting has taken place for almost five years.
