PGIMER accused of favouring some faculty members

PNS

Former faculty member of prestigious Post-Graduate Institute of Medical and Educational Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, on Thursday alleged gross negligence and inefficiency of the Institute’s accounts department for paying excessive amounts of pension to few faculty members.

Dr SM Bose, former president of Association of Surgeons’ of India, Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology, and former senior member of PGI faculty, said that the former faculty members retiring before 2006 have been fighting a legal case for the last four years as the PGI authorities had stopped paying NPA to them following the implementation of sixth Pay Commission Report, whereas the faculty members retiring after 2006 were getting NPA in their pensionary benefits.

He said that the CAT Court, Chandigarh, the Supreme Court of India has now ordered for the payment of NPA to the faculty members retiring before 2006 also.

“While preparing for the Court Case, some of the faculty members were surprised to find that while the faculty with medical qualifications was denied the NPA but the accounts department has been paying NPA to a few faculty members who did not have medical degrees and thus, were not entitled for NPA. This has been going on for a few years and thus PGI had paid lakhs erroneously,” alleged Dr Bose. However, when contacted PGI concerned authorities they refused to comment over the issue.
