In a big relief to the State’s urban population, except Sangrur district, Punjab Government on Thursday waived off interest money and other penalties imposed on the pending amount of user charges of water and sewerage.
To avail this benefit, the consumers should deposit pending amount up to March 31, said the State local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi. Joshi said that the Punjab Government has decided to write off all the interest money on all pending amount which have yet not paid.
“March 31 would be the cut off date for the citizens to avail this facility and they have to pay the actual amount of the bills till then,” he clarified. The Minister said that written instruction in this regard has already been dispatched to all the Commissioners of the Municipal Corporations, Regional Deputy Directors of the local Urban Bodies and Executive Officers of the all Nagar Councils and Panchayats. “The officers have also been told to sensitise the public about the initiative of the Government, so that more and more people can avail this opportunity,” he said.
