In a bid to encourage the State’s farmers towards adopting allied farming activities, the Punjab Government has decided to honour a progressive dairy farmer in the State-level Republic Day function. Badal announced that Daljit Singh Sadarpura, owner of HF (Holstein Friesians) cow which has created national record by giving 61.800 kilograms of milk, will be honoured. This cattle breed today known as the world’s highest-production dairy animals.
The Chief Minister, while addressing the gathering on the concluding day of five-day livestock Expo and National Championship on Monday, asked the State’s farmers to opt for allied farming activities like dairy farming, piggery, apiary, goatery, among others. “In such a dismal scenario, the only silver lining for the farmers is the allied farming sector, which is having a huge potential in the State…In order to emerge out of the current agrarian crisis, Punjabi farmers must take the initiative of opting for allied farming activities,” he said. Badal said: “This will bail out the farmers from the crisis by supplementing their income”.
Recalling Punjabi farmers’ immense contribution in transforming India from a food deficit to food surplus country, Badal envisioned that the state would soon emerge as frontrunner in ‘white and blue’ revolution due to hard work and dedication of state’s farmers. Badal bemoaned that today, with the squeezing margins of profit, agriculture was no longer a profitable preposition due to which farmers were facing a lot of problem for their basic subsistence.
