Former Union and Patiala MP Preneet Kaur on Thursday led a protest along with the women from various constituencies of Punjab before heading to the Deputy Commissioner office to hand over a memorandum to Patiala DC.
Preneet, addressing the gathering, said: “The Aam Aadmi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann gave a guarantee to the people of Punjab before the Vidhan Sabha elections that once elected, they will give Rs 1000 per month to every woman above 18 in the state. But now, it's been six months and there is no sign of the government fulfilling one of its major poll promises.”
She said that there was a growing resentment among the women as they felt completely cheated by the government against their non-implementation of the commitment by the AAP Government. “It is our due right which was promised to us by the government and if the Punjab Government fails to fulfil this guarantee by October, we will hold massive protests against them all over the Punjab,” she said.
Talking about the Capt Amarinder Singh regime, Preneet said: “During his tenure, Capt Amarinder Singh ji implemented many pro-women policies like giving them free bus travel, 50 percent reservation in local bodies and Panchayati Raj elections, increase the amount of Shagun schemes and many more.”
Handing over the memorandum to the Patiala DC Sakshi Sawhney, Preneet said: “I stand before you representing the ladies of Punjab as we demand the State Government to immediately fulfil its commitment to the common folk.”
