As Jat quota agitation ended in Haryana earlier this week, paramilitary forces have been withdrawn from the State, except district Sonipat.

Haryana Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), law and Order, Muhammad Akil on Tuesday said that as normalcy has now returned to the State and there is no need to continue with the deployment of paramilitary forces. However, the paramilitary forces will not be withdrawn from Sonipat, said he.

More than 50 companies of paramilitary forces were deployed in the state in view of Jat reservation protest that began on June 5.

Akil, while addressing the officers of police and paramilitary forces at Bhiwani said that like the remaining parts of the state, situation remained peaceful in Bhiwani district also during the Jat reservation agitation.

He said that during this period, the behaviour of police, administration and paramilitary forces with the general public remained appreciable and all the three deserve praise for maintaining normalcy.

The Jat quota agitation in Haryana was called off on Sunday after All India Jat Arakshan Sangarsh Samiti held talks with the State Government in New Delhi. The decision was after a marathon meeting held between AIJASS President Yashpal Malik and Haryana Minister Krishan lal Panwar in Delhi on last Saturday.

The Jats had been demanding release of "innocent youths" arrested during the quota stir held earlier in February, adequate compensation and job to next of kin of those who lost their lives in the stir and sincere efforts by the government to get the stay on Jat reservation vacated by Punjab and Haryana High Court. They had also demanded withdrawal of cases against protesters during the previous and current phase of agitation.

Many Khaps had opted out of the stir this time spearheaded by AIJASS, which began from June 5.

ADGP Akil said that it was a challenge for the police to maintain peace and harmony after the call for agitation given by some organizations. But the police worked with an aim to ensure that peace in the state is not disturbed at any cost.

The paramilitary forces worked in coordination with the Police in maintaining peace, harmony and brotherhood not only in district Bhiwani, but also in the entire state. Though situation is now peaceful in the state, the Police is maintaining a close vigil so as to avert any attempt to disrupt peace in Haryana, he added.

While replying to the queries of mediapersons, he said that the cases which have been registered by the police during the Jat reservation agitation were being monitored through the Court. In such a situation, police is working in accordance with the orders of the Court, he added.

While the Jat agitation during June remained peaceful, the state had seen the worst violence in its five decades of existence during Jat quota protest held in February. As many as 30 persons were killed, 320 others injured and property worth crores was destroyed during the previous agitation.
